Who writes Visit Murchison Falls?
Uganda's busiest park is also one of its worst documented online. We went back to UWA's tariff, its survey reports and its management plan, and wrote down what they say.
Why bother with another park guide
Because the existing ones repeat each other. Murchison has a signature activity that is sold under one name and delivered in two opposite directions, an entrance surcharge that barely appears anywhere, and a giraffe population of global importance that gets a passing mention. We sell nothing and accept no payment for placement, which means we can just tell you what the documents say.
What we do when the sources fight
This park makes that a daily problem. UWA gives the width of the gorge as six metres in its management plan and its brochure, and as eight metres on its website. It reports 76 mammal species in one publication, 109 in another and 144 on the site. Its tariff prices a night game drive twice, at two different rates, on two pages of the same PDF. Its FAQ page states that the authority runs no accommodation, which its own tariff disproves.
Our rule is to show you both figures, say which document each one comes from, and tell you which we think carries more weight and why. Where the authority publishes nothing, the page says so. The fee tables come from the UWA tariff PDF itself and carry the date we last checked them.
One thing we do not do is smooth over an expired document. The tariff here ran to 30 June 2026 and has not been replaced. Worth knowing before you reach the gate. If you spot something stale here, tell us and we will correct it.
